Close up on ROOS DHUNJIBHOY MEYERS
Roos Dhunjibhoy Meyers was born in Belgium, but grew up travelling between Belgium, Egypt and Jakarta where her family had several business interests. As soon as Roos graduated from Boston University’s School of Management, she started out in the bottem ranks in a real estate and maritime business and patiently built a position in the firm. After the birth of her daughter in 1996, she moved to Mumbai together with her husband.
In 1998, Roos was appointed Business Development in Infobricks Technology Pvt. Ltd., a startup in the IT industry focusing on software development in the maritime industry. Her commitment to success secured the firm much needed international sales and a succesful Joint Venture with Danaos Services Management Consulting.
Pleased with her achievement, she decided to venture back into some postgraduate training, combined with some more mother-daughter time. While she studied, she did some consultancy work for a real estate company, which she later on acquired.
Upon expansion of the real estate market in the U.A.E., she made the call to move permanently to Dubai in 2003. She managed a portfolio in Dubai with an array of investments for many years. By the end of 2007, her belief of a global contagion slowly grew as she considered the financial distress in the US. As a result, she took a then very unpopular call; to drastically reduce her exposure to real estate. In hindsight, this was a very good decision, which gained her some acclaim among her peers.
With the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the global financial crisis, came a need to be personally aware of banks and their money management. Roos decided it was best to personally manage her investment portfolio, which surprisingly turned out to be a very emotional journey. The world of finance and banking was a great learning experience with its own unique challenges. After various financial training courses, she gained the confidence to manage her portfolio. She has been in charge of the investment strategy for a family office since 2011 and sits on three different boards.
