“WHEN IT ALL GOES UP IN FLAMES”

It happened again today. Heather, our Appraisal Manager stood by my desk with eyebrows raised and said, “We’ve got another one.” She didn’t need to say another word because I knew what she was going to say. I responded, “Let me guess, the client’s house was robbed and they need an appraisal of a Tiffany floor lamp”. That was last week’s loss and a tragedy for the client, “John Smith.”
John chose an insurance carrier, who required an appraisal for any item over $1,000, but he didn’t have an appraisal of the lamp and he couldn’t provide any “proof” that it was made by Tiffany. Desperately, John called our firm to provide him with an appraisal of the lamp. John could only find one photo of the lamp.
