How did it all start?
At MasterCard, there are eight different diversity groups, made up of a collection of individuals with common interests. Within those, there is a group called Women’s Leadership Network (WLN), which includes more than 1,000 female employees globally. At the very core of WLN, we’re focused on empowering women on a personal and professional level through a culture of coaching and mentoring and we believe that empowerment should go beyond our own workplace. This is why we decided to embark on the Ro’Ya journey. The initiative is designed to help female entrepreneurs realize their true aspirations, and develop themselves on a personal and professional level. Success and growth of SMEs are vital indicators of any country’s economic progress and it is imperative that every effort is made to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship and nurture budding entrepreneurs. Women in the UAE are playing an increasingly important role in driving the economy, and we remain committed to helping them realize their business vision. By following their dreams of entrepreneurship, they will then be able to play a role in supporting the country’s economy.
Dubai Business Women Council and MasterCard partnership – Why DBWC?
The Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) has been working for more than a decade to bring a positive change in the society by empowering women and motivating them to be productive members of the society and economy. There are a number of programs that DBWC has introduced over the past many years that have resonated with women in the UAE. Given our shared values and goals in empowering female entrepreneurs, DBWC was an ideal partner for us.
