The workshop speaker is Alta Mauro who serves as the founding director of the Office of Intercultural Education and Spiritual Life at New York University Abu Dhabi where she leads university efforts to strategize around cross- and intercultural competence. Previously, she served as director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Wake Forest University. Alta is completing a Ph.D. in educational leadership and cultural foundations at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her research focuses on racial socialization and upward mobility among American racial minorities. Additional research interests include cultural communication, social justice education, culturally-relevant pedagogy, strategies to increase cultural competence among adolescents and adults, and psychological attribution and perception.

Subject Achieving Excellence: Leveraging Diversity & Embracing Inclusion: Research has consistently shown that diverse teams are more innovative: productive: and that they generate greater revenue _ there are no magic bullets to achieving diversity there are relevant processes and ways of being that position teams to attract talent from all increasingly interconnected global world: and to leverage the skills of such diverse groups in order to achieve inclusive and affirming teams which deliver greater workplace results. Participants in this session will begin to explore workplace dynamics arid the impact of culture arid cultural communication on inclusion.
